Budhanilkantha School vs Student Organizations Conflict
    Author: Ujwal Thapa, SEBS
    Post Date: 6/29/2003
    Dear Members,

SEBS is pleased to announce that the conflict surrounding the lockdown of Principal's office and the Accounts section of Budhanilkantha School has been transformed.

Late last night, the representatives of 7 different students’ organizations and the school Administration along with SEBS agreed on the following agendas:

    a) Budhanilkantha school will strive to increase the number of scholarships to its students, and continue expanding the student number along with the number of scholarship students (all depending on the resources and the capacity)

    b) The school will also bring out the policies, plans, and its philosophy to the public more proactively and publicize its positive aspects so that the Nepali civil society gets a true reflection of the school.

    c) It was also agreed that there will be more interaction / dialogues between the school and the students’ organizations.

    d) Budhanilkantha school will make its student selection procedures, status reports, financial statements and other aspects of the administration transparent.

This issue with the present student organizations has presented a fresh opportunity for Budhanilkantha School to publicize itself as an alternative model for all the private schools in Nepal and which the student representatives have been very appreciative of the school’s model and its policies. There is now a better understanding of the school in the view of student organizations affiliated with various political parties.

SEBS has taken the role of a facilitator in convincing the students’ organizations of the national role of Budhanilkantha School.

SEBS also took the opportunity to highlight its own social service activities including the Nationwide Scholarship Program which the students took very positively and also made a suggestion that SEBS should be more proactive in publicizing its activities to the rest of the society so that others can get inspired from SEBS.

The following SEBS members were present at the concluding talks which happened yesterday at Budhanilkantha School from 5pm to 9 pm.

SEBS believes that we have successfully steered Budhanilkantha School out of the present Students organizations---PABSON (private school’s organizations) conflict. As PABSON member schools have threatened to close down their schools in response to the students lock down of schools, Budhanilkantha School has now been left out of the row as the students organizations have tacitly accepted it as a national school, and possibly an alternate model for the private schools in Nepal.

    Sincerely,

    Ujwal Thapa
    Spokesperson,
    SEBS
