    Looking forward to year ahead

    YEAR AHEAD

As you all must be aware, it’s been over a month since the new executive committee took over. After a couple of rounds of meetings amongst ourselves it has been decided that we set certain goals for the year to come. The mission we have set for the forthcoming year, apart from the regular SEBS activities like Blood donation and health camps, Art/Dance Competitions, are as follows:

    Endowment Fund:
One of the main concerns over the years among the SEBS members has been the use of the membership fee received from the LIFE members. Having been associated with the SEBS Ex-Committee for quite sometime I would like you to take note of the fact that the idea of setting up Endowment Fund was discussed on several occasions but because of the sheer lack of funds we were always compelled in one way or the other to use the fund for carrying out the various activities of SEBS, much against our wishes of keeping it separately as an Endowment Fund! The onus new Ex-Committee has taken upon itself this time around is to make headway in getting started with the Endowment Fund so that few years down the line SEBS would always have a fund at its disposal rather than seek sponsors for even paying the office rent! ( Since the practice has been such that anyone who has studied in BNKS for at least a year automatically qualifies to be a member of SEBS, may be its about time we formally do away with the yearly membership program.)

Updating the database of LIFE members:
The question SEBS is often confronted with what have they done to its LIFE members. Have they been forgotten? In an effort to recognize the invaluable support of such members, we have started updating the database of all the life members and started writing them personally along with a copy of Aastha, the annual magazine of SEBS. We will be looking for newer ways to what SEBS can do to its members, esp. those who have made significant contribution towards growth of SEBS.

    Working with SEBS-NA:
One of the major areas which we gather that the SEBS-NA is focusing on is the speeding up the tempo of LRC (Learning Resource Center) at the school. SEBS will be lending its active support in facilitating SEBS – NA move ahead with the project.

    9/1,2004 and its aftermath.
In the wake of national tragedy, the massacre of twelve Nepalese in Iraq, SEBS should focus on the SBES members working abroad. Some two years ago, SEBS lost one of its members, Purna (409 B) who was brutally murdered in UAE. One tragic point worth taking into consideration is that though there were few (may be two or three) SEBS members around at that time in UAE they were not aware of each others presence in the region. So we think we should at least have a proper information of SEBS members working abroad, especially ‘dangerous’ places just to make sure that in times of trouble they know where and whom to reach for. We hope that this effort of ours may prove to be a little helpful step.

    Working relationships with FOBS.
As far as we understand the relationship between SEBS and FOBS have never been so cordial, thanks to efforts put in by past presidents. We hope to continue working with FOBS and compliment each other for the betterment of the school.

As always, we look forward to hearing from you. Comments, be it of any kind, are always welcome. Furthermore, we can always add if feasible suggestions are forthcoming that will prove beneficial for SEBS and its members.
