The Junior Youth Red Cross-circle of Budhanilkantha School is a non-profit, voluntary and independent body established in 1992 A. D. with the objectives of general welfare and improving the physical, mental and social conditions of people. This circle has been conducting several humanitarian activities successfully for past thirteen years. The objectives of the circle are:
1. To protect life and preserve health of general people by conducting health camps and vaccination programs. 2. To conduct blood donation programs for the needy people. 3. To work for the welfare of the unfortunate and the underprivileged like the orphans and the disabled. 4. To serve the community by organizing various programs based on health and humanitarian topics such as cleaning campaigns, school-wise First Aid training etc. 5. To fight against social problems such as drug abuse, AIDS, paedophilia, child servitude, girl trafficking, illiteracy etc and raise awareness in such areas.
Successfully held recent programs and activities
Ever since its establishment, the circle has been able to fulfill its activities in a successful manner. It has been carrying out various humanitarian services under the principles of Red Cross and Red Crescent societies as approved by the Geneva Convention. One of the major programs the circle conducts annually is the Blood Donation program. A two-day Health Camp was conducted in 2004 at a remote and backward place of Nawalparasi, in which about 1000 Tharus and Kumals were benefited from the free check-up and free distribution of medicines. As an important event of the Junior Youth Red Cross Circle, First Aid Training program was held for students of various schools on the same year. The program received overwhelming response and appreciation from different schools of the valley. The contribution of the club in helping the needy people affected by severe flood in Rautahat district in collaboration with five other service oriented clubs was also a major activity of the club.
As in the previous years the circle has decided to organize the following activities:
1. Inter School Essay Writing Competition-Ashad 26th, 2062. Aim: The main objective of this competition is to encourage students to put forward their innovative ideas and views reflecting their level of understanding of various topics related to health and humanitarian areas.
Participants: Students of secondary level from different governmental and private schools.
Required resources: Prize for the winners Rs.5000
2. School-wise First Aid Training-Shrawan 7th, 8th , 9th , 2062. Aim: The motive behind this training is to equip students with the knowledge of first-aid treatment. The training will enable the participants to decide and apply various first-aid techniques to victims and be able to reduce the hazards due to lack of appropriate knowledge on handling even minor health problems. Thus, this training will prove to be an effective step towards the necessary health education.
Participants: Students of age group 14-18 from various schools.
Location: Budhanilkantha school’s hall

3. Health camp to remote area- Bhadra 7th & 8th , 2062 Aim: the main objective of this health camp is to provide health services to the deprived people of a certain community in a remote area of the country. Specialists and doctors will examine and prescribe necessary medical treatment. Minor medical treatment will be conducted in the camp itself whereas severe cases will be forwarded where necessary. Thus this camp is directed towards people who have not been able to benefit from any government or private health service.
Targeted number of patients: 1000 including women and children.
Location: It will be decided after brief study and field visit of probable localities and will be notified a month in advance.
Required resources: Doctor and assistant charge Rs. 20,000 Medicines Rs. 70,000 Transportation Rs. 14,000 Food Rs. 8,000 Lodging Rs. 7,000 Miscellaneous Rs. 2,000 Total Rs.1,21,000
4. Talk Program-Mangsir 8th,2062 Aim: The topic for the talk program being health related will aim to raise awareness among young people regarding various health related issues.
Location: Budhanilkantha school’s assembly hall
Audience: Students of age group 15-20
Required resources: Cost for tokens Rs. 1,800 Refreshments Rs. 6,000 Miscellaneous Rs. 1,000 Total Rs. 8,800
5. Blood donation program – Bhadra 26th, 2062 Aim: The program aims to collect blood required for patients undergoing various treatments. The collected blood will be handed over to the Red Cross Circle of Kathmandu district.
Targeted number of donors: 200 Location: Budhanilkantha School
Required resources; Cost for prior tests Rs. 2,000 Stationery and banners Rs. 1,500 Food for donors Rs. 8,000 Miscellaneous Rs. 1,000 Total Rs.12,500
6. Picnic for orphans Aim: The program aims to provide recreation and adventure to the orphans deprived of family care.
Number of children: About 100
Location: It will be inside the valley and will be decided according to the situation.
Required Resources; Cost for food Rs. 20,000 Prize for games Rs. 1,000 Transportation Rs. 10,000 Miscellaneous Rs. 1,000 Total Rs. 32,000
7. Manakamana visit for orphans Aim: to provide opportunity for the disabled to visit the famous Manakamana Temple by cable car.
Number of participants: about 100
Location: Manakamana Temple
Required resources: Cost of cable car tickets Rs. 25,000 Cost of Transportation Rs. 10,000 Fooding Rs. 22,500 Total Rs. 57,500
8. Album competition Aim: In this competition, the club intends to send posters and drawings of participants abroad through Nepal Red Cross society. The main motive of this program is to provide Nepalese talent to compete with foreign students.
Number of participants: About 50
Required Resources: Drawing pens, papers and paints Rs. 1,500 Miscellaneous Rs. 500 Total Rs. 2,000
9. Flood relief If any kind of natural calamities such as flood occurs, the club will be providing relief packages to the victims in collaboration with five other service oriented clubs of Budhanilkantha School.
Required resources: Transportation Rs. 10,000 Food stuffs, clothing items and tents for temporary settlements Rs. 25,000 Miscellaneous Rs. 5,000 Total Rs. 40,000
