    Urgent: Your Help Needed
    Author: Yubraj Acharya 063B

    Dear SEBS Member,

My name is Yubraj Acharya - Budhanilkantha School A-level batch of 2001. I am writing to seek your financial support for the victims of ongoing protests in Nepal.

I am sure that you all are aware of the dramatic events unfolding in Nepal even as I type this letter. Over the last few days, the peaceful agitation called on by the seven political parties has been brutally repressed by the government. As of now, six people have been shot dead, and hundreds have been seriously injured. For the first few days, curfews were imposed nights and days. Although curfews have been lifted now, violence is going on and worsening by day.

The pictures that are coming out of Nepal in the last few days are the most heart rendering pictures one can imagine of. As we keep our fingers crossed, check news every minute, and hope for the best for Nepal from places far away, children, innocent civilians as well lower-rank police officers are suffering. Just to take an example, 14 year old Mukesh Kayastha from Banepa is in the ICU of Bir Hospital from a severe brain damage. Most recently, over twelve civilians were injured from army firing at peaceful protestors in Arghakhanchi. Many of them had to be taken to India for treatment. These are not isolated incidents. More and more people are being injured everyday. And many of them do not have the resources to cover their medical expenses.

It is time for us to individually rise to the occasion, and show our support to the brave countrymen and women who have put their lives to danger and have suffered greatly. Be it from the state side or from the people side, the wounded citizens filling the beds in hospitals not only need our moral encouragement, but also our financial assistance for medical treatment. Whether they followed instructions from a dictator or from some incompetent leader, these people put our liberty and freedom before their lives.

I am writing this email to you to seek your personal contribution for the people who have been injured. Their numbers are increasing as I write this and your timely help is critical. SEBS-North America has set up a system so that you can contribute to this cause. We will be sending money to Nepal for the injured hopefully through SEBS. In the scenario that the money is not used for the victims of protests, we will use it for Nationwide Scholarship Program to benefit sons and daughters of those who have died in the last twelve years of civil war. Rest assured, your contribution will not be misused.

To make a contribution, please go to the following link:

    DONATE HERE

Please select the --other causes-- category. You can donate either using your paypal account or directly using your credit card. There is no base or cap on the amount of money you donate, but please do make a contribution. Details of the contribution as well as that of disbursement will be posted on the website.

Thank you for your help. If you have any questions, please contact me at yachary1@alum.swarthmore.edu or at 610-717-2292. And feel free to forward this email to your friends and relatives. If there was ever a time Nepal needed us, it is now. It is time for action; together we can do it!

    Sincerely,

    Yubraj Acharya, 063B
