The number of requests for loans that SEBS-North America receives from post-SLC students at Budhanilkantha Students has risen significantly in recent years. This is due to the fact that the government provides scholarships to students only up to the tenth grade, a result of which is that many deserving candidates do not receive financial support to continue at Budhanilkantha after completing their SLC. The school makes an effort to subsidize a few students’ fees, but very often the school is too stretched on the budget to continue subsidizing after a certain period of time.

In the past, the school has made an effort to allow deserving students who were initially on full or partial scholarships to continue their education as long as they are willing to pay back their dues within a few years after graduation from the school, especially once they were selected for O-levels. In recent years, however, the school management is reluctant to do so as many students earlier failed to lived up to their promise.

We request all SEBS members to be aware of the fact that your failure to comply with the implicit or explicit contract you made with the school while you were a student could have (and is having) long-lasting repercussions to the new generation of partial- and full-scholarship students at the school. The amount you owe the school could be insignificant, perhaps too small for you to notice, especially if you are a well-established, working professional. But that little amount could decide whether someone who is now in a boat in which you were many years ago can continue his/her education at Budhanilkantha after SLC.

Any such failure to comply with the promises made to the school by an individual also works to jeopardize the relationship we as members of the alumni organization have with the school. Furthermore, if not fixed, this problem will make it difficult for us to meet our goal of giving back to the country, as every person who fails to clear his/her fees is essentially depriving a deserving candidate from the type of good education that the former received.
