Author: Yubraj Acharya, Spokesperson, SEBS-North America
    Post Date: 3/23/2007
SEBS-North America has formed the Nationwide Scholarship Program-North America (NSP-NA) under Rupendra dai's (766B) leadership to support the NSP team in Kathmandu and to work as a liaison between SEBS-NA and the NSP. One of the major goals of the NSP-NA team this year is to coordinate with NSP and the Santi School Project to construct a school in Ramche, near Barabise.

Below are short profiles of the NSP-NA team members. If you have any questions or suggestions regarding NSP-NA, please email sebsna@sebsonline.org. Of course, if you have general questions about the Nationwide Scholarship Program, you should email nsp@sebsonline.org.

    NSP-NA Executive Team--

    Bisundev Mahato (707B)

While in BNKS, Bisundev got involved with what was then "Rural Health Club". "My only job at that time was to distribute "jeevan jal," Maithili and Nepali health books (provided by the senior dais of the club) to the locals of my village when I was in long vacations," Bisundev recalls. Sometimes he was asked to conduct small surveys involving the local health care workers and villagers. He also held small discussions with the villagers to help them read and understand what was written in the books distributed to them.

When in grade 8, Bisundev started the “Samaj Utthan Club” in his village. After graduation from Budhanilkantha School, he taught at various schools in Nepal before pursuing Applied Mathematics and Computer Science at Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island - he later transferred to Harvard University to study economics. After a brief stint in consulting, he is currently working at Columbia University as a Senior Economics Programmer; mostly, in areas of health policy and management. Driven by concrete, result-oriented efforts, Bisundev looks forward to working with NSP-NA to achieve just that.
