SEBS NA U.S. College Info session succesfully held
    Author: Ekta Ghimire
    Post Date: 8/1/2007
An information session about the application process for U.S. colleges and the life after, organized by SEBS North America in Budhanilkantha School on August 1, 2007, 4:30 PM (Nepal time) was a tremendous success.

The aim was to inform and open up channels of guidance to the school students through ex-students with U.S. college experience currently visiting Nepal, in an organized interaction session.

Special Thanks to Shalaj Tater and Bickey Rimal for making the info session possible.

SEBS North America is planning to give continuity to this program annually.

If you want to obtain a copy of the info session handout, please contact:

Reporting the event as successful, Shalaj Tater writes:

    Dear all,

The info session this evening was very successful. We had a very impressive turnout of over a hundred students. Mr. Atiram K.C. was also very supportive and seemed to be genuinely appreciative of our efforts.

The session started at 4:30 PM and lasted for about 90 minutes. We had set a very informal tone to it. We were speaking in both English and Nepali to make the students feel comfortable. We had also welcomed questions during our talk although we didn't get a whole lot of those. Bickey, Nayan, and myself covered all the topics that we had discussed amongst us in the last few days. Suraj (196 C), who recently completed his medical studies from the Philippines, also agreed to join us, and he later answered some of the questions directed toward medicine.

After the 90-minute-long presentation, we opened the floor for questions. We got a few, including some from Mr. K.C. Around 6:30 we formally ended the session but volunteered to stay around if any of the students wanted to ask us anything personally. We were pleasantly surprised to see that only a few left, and the rest of them got hold of us four individually and gathered around us asking all sorts of questions! We finally had to say goodbyes at 7 PM because it was time for their supper.

For your reference, please see the attached handout which we had distributed to the students prior to our session.

We also made an announcement about the SEBS-NA Annual Fund for Student Projects and distributed copies of the guidelines to School Prefects and club presidents.

All in all, this initiative was very well-received, and I think we should continue to do such presentations in future.

    Shalaj
