SEBS DEMANDS HIGH LEVEL PROBE COMMITTEE TO INVESTIGATE ALLEGED DUPING OF PUBLIC FUNDS

The Society of Ex Budhanilkantha Students (SEBS) is deeply moved by the allegation involving misuse of public funds by the principal of Budhanilkantha School, Mr Narayan Prasad Sharma. The SEBS hereby expresses serious concern for the dilly-dallying of investigation and records that the truth be brought before the public at the earliest.

The SEBS beholds that it is in the interests of all the stakeholders including the students, parents, the school, public and the nation at large that the hard facts over the alleged misuse of authority by the principal of the esteemed institution, Budhanilkantha School, be known without delay. Even as the Staffs Union of Budhanilkantha (SUB) filed a petition four months ago to the Chair of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of Budhanilkantha School, who also happens to be the Secretary of the Ministry of Education, the alumni is greatly dismayed to learn that the issue has not been taken up for investigation by the concerned authority for such a long time.

The context of the alleged involvement of Principal Sharma in duping public funds, and the issue being consistently raised in several national media, has irked the reputation and credibility of Budhanilkantha School as the Centre of Excellence. Thus, the SEBS demands that the Ministry of Education immediately set-up a high level probe committee to investigate the matter with due representation of SEBS in the investigation committee.

The SEBS stands by the ideals of innocent until proven guilty but the same while beholds that the truth behind the allegation cannot be and should not be put off endlessly, also in regard to the alleged, stakeholders, authorities et al. The people hold the right to truth.

Budhanilkantha School, established by the government of Nepal as a premier model school under the grant assistance of the government of the United Kingdom in Seventies, runs as a Community Trust (Guthi) with annual budget support by the government. It has been under operation since 1972, before Mr Sharma was inducted as a teacher in the school in 1985.

The SEBS, an alumni, established 28 years ago has emerged as one of the largest civil society organizations in Nepal with over 3000 members with network in all 75 districts of Nepal and 40 countries across the globe.
