Codolence message on the demise of Dr. Saubhagya Shah (149A)

CONDOLENCE MESSAGE OF THE SEBS PRESIDENT MR SURESH ACHARYA ON THE SAD DEMISE OF THE SEBSER AND ANTHROPOLOGIST DR SAUBHAGYA BIKRAM SHAH (149A) ON 16 DECEMBER 2009

I would like to express my deepest sorrow and mourns at the sudden demise of SEBser Dr Saubhagya Bikram Shah (149A) at the young age of 48 due to massive heart attack on Wednesday, 16 December 2009. He was admitted at Alka Hospital in Lalitpur after a heart complaint on Tuesday evening.

The Society of Ex-Budhanilkantha School (SEBS) has lost one of it's most aspiring and elite member, who had completed his school graduation in 1980 from Budhanilkantha School. He will be remembered by all of us for his friendliness, adherence to the ideal of 'simple living, high thinking' and the dedication towards the nation.

He was a leading anthropologist, prolific writer, political commentator and true patriot. Late Shah, who hailed from Jumla, one of the remote districts in Nepal has authored several books, amongst them is the widely acclaimed- 'The Uncivilised Civil Society'.

Late Shah, who did his Ph.d from Harvard University in the USA under the Full Bright scholarship, was Associate Professor at the Department of Sociology and Anthropology and Program Coordinator of the Department of Conflict, Peace and Development Studies Program at Tribhuvan University. He played leading role in establishing Department of Conflict, Peace & Development Studies Program in Nepal. Prior to this, late Shah also worked as a journalist in The Rising Nepal Daily for several years.

At this hour of grief, I express heartfelt condolences on behalf of the SEBS and on my own, to the members of bereaved family.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
