Presentation by SEBS President at Special Meeting
    Author: SEBS
    Post Date: 6/6/2010
Welcome and Presentation of General Report by the SEBS President Suresh Acharya for the period from January 2010 to May 2010
(Special Meeting of the Critical Group of SEBSers held on June 5, 2010 Saturday at Dhokaima Café, Patan Dhoka)

Welcome and good evening! I would like to welcome all SEBSers, who are present here this evening to discuss about SEBS and its sustainability, and networking with each other. Now, I would like to mention some of the programs and activities undertaken by the SEBS in the last six months, in a bullet format:

    1) Special General Assembly was held in January 2010: New Structural Change proposed its still under discussion. Prior to this, the memoriam was held on the demise of SEBS member Saubhagya Shah on December 25, 2009.
    2) Renewal of the SEBS registration and Tax Clearance for three Fiscal Years with expenses of Rs 20,000.
    3) Participated in Open Day of BNKS at Budhanilkantha School.
    4) Organized Deusi Bhailo: about Rs 15 thousand income was generated
    5) 101 Fund: Altogether 45 SEBSers have pledged. Collected total of 2 lakhs, remained to be collected 2 lakhs from pledgers. I wish all the pledgers deposit the contribution at the earliest. Meanwhile, Rs. 10,000 each by Maghendra Bir Shahi (110A), Gajendra Bohara (400A) and Dr Pramod Aryal have been recently deposited in the 101 fund.
    6) Hired one Admin Officer to run the SEBS office. Now the office opens from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm everyday except public holidays and saturdays. The historic telephone no 4411390, and computer in the SEBS office is in operation after long-time remaining idel.
    7) No house rent due: House rent paid since Chaitra 2065 up to Jestha 2067 by this ex-comm, while the current ex-comm had taken-up charge of the SEBS in Bhadra 2066.
    8) I have given approval in capacity of the SEBS Representative in the BNKS Board of Trustees to the Principal's Rs 10 crore proposed project to expand current BNKS infrastructure within three year period, so that it could run a residential school for girls and to build the SEBS Community Complex in the school premise. For this project the SEBS need to generate 5% of the total cost. About 250 girl students will benefit making boys-girls ratio in the school stand at 50:50%.
    9) 1st Batch and 4th Batch Re Unions were organized. The SEBS has the policy to encourage such Batch meetings.
    10) SEBS had recently supported "Women-in-Concert" that has helped to enhance SEBS visibility and generate some income.
    11) The SEBS Sponsored "Give Me Jazz": to be organized by BNKS Focus Club tomorrow (June 6th) in the BNKS. Some 10 entrance passes are available for SEBSers.
    12) Welcome and Farewell program for 126 A-level and Plus-2 students is scheduled to be organized in June 11, 2010 jointly by the SEBS and BNKS School at the school.
    13) The SEBS has approached Chemonic International for funding a SEBS' project in central Terai region, and it is in the final stage of approval according to the Project Coordinator and General Secretary Tulshi Ramtel.
    14) The SEBS is planning to expand the SEBS Nationwide Scholarship Programme from the upcoming Fiscal Year. I have already submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Education, Government of Nepal to include the NSP in the National Budget allocation. I have also requested for Rs 50 lakhs annual allocation to run the NSP. I would now like to request all SEBSers, especially today's participants to support me by participating in the delegation to the Minister for Finance and other government officials to give a final "Big Push" to the SEBS' agenda within the next week. We are in a crucial phase.
    15) SEBS is considering to run a 3-day Health Camp in Parbat district in association with BNKS Physical Fitness Club in the last week of June 2010.
    16) The present ex-comm is planning to organize the SEBS 29th Annual General Assembly along with Grand Re-Union in the last week of August 2010. This ends my tenure, however, we have also planned some activities beyond August 2010, that can be taken-up by subsequent executive committee.
    17) SEBS is planning to organize a group tour package to Kagbeni and Muktinath before the Dashain or start of October: We are looking for SEBSers' travel agency to organize the event.
    18) We are also planning to shift the SEBS office from current location, but we haven't found a suitable place 'according to the size of our pocket'. We would like to run a SEBS Cafe with ample space and translocation of the SEBS City Office there. We need genuine business investors who are able to invest individually or collectively about Rs. 25 lakhs. SEBSer Gajendra Bohara has been coordinating with potential investors, but it is in a very preliminary stage.
    19) The SEBS is also considering to support a two-week surgery Camp to be held in Dhankuta in October 2010.

Finally, I would like to request for your highest consideration to my four propositions, and their endorsement:
    1) Formation of 9-member Emeritus Advisory Board (EAB)
    2) Endorsement of the By-law on the EAB.
    3) Make final recommendation on amendment of the current SEBS Article of Association.
    4) Expansion of the SEBS Executive Committee from current 13-member committee to 19-member committee. (We would like to induct 2 gents and 4 ladies from ongoing and outgoing A-Level and Plus-2 students from BNKS.)

    Thanks.
