    SEBS-NA Excomm Meeting Minutes - Feb 23, 2002

    Excomm Meeting Minutes

    When: February 23, 2002, 12:00 noon EST
    Where: www.sebsonline.org – Excomm Meeting Room
    Who:

    On the above-mentioned date, time and place, the monthly SEBS-NA Excomm meeting was held. All members of the SEBS-NA Excomm attended the meeting. The vice president of SEBS was very kind to attend the meeting for a short while. The meeting was also attended, for the very first time, by two observers. SEBS-NA would continue to hold monthly meetings that are open to members. Please contact Suren Shakya if you want to be an observer at next monthly meeting. Following agenda was discussed in the meeting.

    Agenda 1. Update on relationship with SEBS
    · Gyanendra Pandey and Sagar Onta, with guidance from Suren Shakya, will continue working on drafting Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and other details between the two organizations.
    · If agreement can be reached then MoU will be officially adopted at the SEBS-NA Annual Get-Together in DC in July.

    Agenda 2. Project Acceptance Policy
    ·The final draft of the Project Acceptance Policy will be sent to SEBS-NA Advisors (includes SEBS Excomm) and get their comments before formally adopting it.
    · End of February 2002 has been set as deadline to get comments back from advisors.

    Agenda 3. Four proposed Goals of SEBS-NA:
    a.Member Services: Member service was identified as the most important goal of SEBS-NA. This will include providing advice for members on education, visa, taxes, finance, living etc. It will also incorporate helping SEBS in Nepal strengthen its member base.
    b. BNKS Development: Due to the structure of our alma mater, Budhanilkantha School, it was decided that more fundamental effort must be made to be an integral part of the school’s decision-making body. BNKS Annual Report proposal was scrapped for now. This Goal is also moved to Goal 3.
    c. Social Service in Nepal: This Goal is upgraded to Goal 2 of SEBS-NA. It was decided that SEBS-NA will focus on Education and Health sector. Cooperation with other NGO’s, including SEBS, will be sought to implement social service projects in Nepal.
    d. Leadership in NA: To be visible among Nepali community associations in North America. Need to be involved in ANA Convention and other major Nepali gatherings. Vision to market as implementing arm of Nepali associations in NA and advocate for single platform to voice concerns of all Nepalese living in NA.

    Agenda 4. Annual Get-Together in DC
    a. Draft program: SEBS-NA Excomm’s General Election will be conducted at the get-together. Rajan to assist in web voting, Kiran Sitoula will draft a program in March and circulate it. Yubraj Acharya to help Kiran Sitoula organize the program including promoting activities of other members.

    b. SEBS-NA Annual Report: Sagar Onta will formulate the content of the report.

    Agenda 5. Monthly update on on-going projects and proposals
    a. NPCCI with Stanford University: Waiting to hear from Liz Kwo regarding the proposal that was sent last month. Need to make sure we can deliver what we promised in the proposal. Contact Raby dai for confirmation.

    b. PDRC project with Ram Khadka: Waiting for cost analysis of the project. Need to include SEBS to help monitor and audit the work.

    c. Briddhashram project with Dr. Shyam Karki: No checks received yet for the project.

    d. Library Project: Kiran Sitoula will be conducting background research on the implementation of the project.

    e. Internet Project: Batch 500B will take charge, analyze its feasibility and present project proposal if favorable.

    f. Upcoming project heads-up/discussion: None identified.

    Agenda 6. Webpage for each project and proposal
    · SEBS-NA has decided to give Rajan Nepal the authority to form a Web Committee to monitor and administer various aspect of the www.sebsonline.org website. He will solicit volunteers to help create the project page.
    Agenda 7. Webpage for member involvement and achievements
    ·Web Committee under Rajan will formulate criteria for inducting members to the website’s achievement’s page.
    Agenda 8. Review of progress on SEBS-Complex
    ·Did not address due to lack of time.
    Agenda 9. Internet Cafe discussion
    ·Discussed under Internet Project item.
