Message of Dr. Sneedha Mainali, Newly elected SEBS President
    Author: SEBS
    Post Date: 8/20/2013
Nothing can better define me than my love for children. I am in love with children at Budhanilkatha school as well. Children in school and children who passed out from the school (sebsers) have never failed to leave a mark. That’s why I feel proud to be a sebser and am sure you all do as well.

I thank you all for electing our team for 2013-15. Right now, I do not want to say I am happy to be so called “first lady SEBS president” because for me, its not name but the responsibility that comes with name is important. Happiness will come on the day when our team proves itself. On the other side,we were selected unopposed. That means most of you believe in us . With this encouragement, I present our team.

As somebody rightly said in one of the comments “ Great challenges produce great opportunities”, we would like to utilize this opportunity to serve in order of preference
    1) Alumni
    2) School
    3) Community

    In following manners

    1) Serving our Alumni

    Improving networking amongst us SEBSers:

    • The past Executive Committee introduced a networking event called “Ten Past Six”. This team is looking to give continuity to this event and hold it more regularly.

    • Picnics at BNKS: We are planning to organize home coming weekends during long holidays at the schools. This will give an opportunity for its alumni members to go back to the school and relive the school days while also networking with other SEBSers.

    Increasing Female Participation:

    • We hope to increase female participation through ladies only networking events which will encourage fellow SEBSers and help them connect with the organization.

    • We also plan to revive batch representatives, preferably a male and a female, for each batch and hold them responsible and accountable in trying to reach to every SEBser possible. This will help ensure greater reach to those who have been out of touch with the organization.

    Assistance to SEBSers

    • SEBS will revive its program to provide financial assistance to its members in need. SEBS will provide low interest loans for education purpose and help during medical emergencies.

    2) Serving our BNKS

SEBS can play a vital role to make the BNKS experience even better for the future SEBsers:

    • Support to PE Department: The tennis court in our school has gone into a state of disrepair and the PE department has asked for SEBS’ help to renovate and possibly build an additional court. We want to revive the opportunity for students to play tennis and add a new dimension to the existing diverse range of sporting activities at our school.

    • Improving Dental Hygiene: During the latest dental camp at the school, we noticed that many of the dental problems were happening as a result of the students not properly washing up after meals. We propose to build taps near the dining hall to solve this problem.

    • Enhancing Light & Sound system: The school’s sound system appears to be in a serious need of upgrade. So, we plan to make cultural programs much better by enhancing the sound system with better technology or at least one that works smoothly.

Better Collaboration with School Management Committee:

    • The school has decided to reserve a seat for the SEBS President in the SMC. This post will allow SEBS to be informed about the schools affairs and keep the alumni body informed about issue so that we can offer constructive
Providing counseling services to the students:

    • SEBS can help the existing guiding counselors by providing resources and training to make them better at guiding students with their needs.

    • Another need that we see in the school is that of psychological counselor. We already have a well maintained clinic to fulfill our physical medical needs but students do not have a place to go if they have psychological health issues.

Evaluating teachers at the end of each academic year:

    • Introducing Best-teacher award: One is by awarding the best of teachers evaluated by a team of students and SEBS.

    • Teacher evaluation program: We also plan to encourage the school to adopt teachers’ evaluation at the end of each year
    done by their respective students.

    • Bringing in international volunteers to teach for a few months or even a year can help students especially with their English.

    3) Serving our community

    Improving(reviving) Nationwide Scholarship Program

    • The NSP program an excellent program that helps underprivileged kids from various parts of the country with their educational needs by providing scholarships. We can make this even more effective with few reforms and institutionalization. One core problem that the current Ex-Comm identified is that the program has become hard to implement as there are fewer students from rural areas who go back home during vacations. As a result, the scholarships are hard to administer and monitor. We propose that NSP develop institutional partnerships with well known regional schools where we can both guarantee a good education and also get proper feedback from the school. Rather than working with dozens of schools, we recommend that we form partnership with just three to five schools where the scholarships will be given.

    Working with Nearby Community

    • Since the school is such a big part of the community, keeping good relationship with the surrounding communities is essential. We will work with school clubs to carry out various awareness programs and cleaning programs around the Budhanilkantha community.

    Continuing Health Camps

    • We plan to conduct various blood donation programs and health camps as a part of giving back to our community. These programs will help towards the reputation of SEBS outside of the BNKS society.

•These are the things in short…….details will be given as time comes. You all are most welcome to add ideas for the benefit of all three elements given above. I thank you all one more time for electing our team. With your support, guidance and constructive criticism, SEBS can pave a way for generations to follow.
If in case you do not want your comments to appear here, you can contact me through my personal fb address, email me at drsneedhamainali@gmail.com or call me at 9841914293. I will be more than happy to discuss ideas for good.
