New Process for Issue Discussions during SEBS-NA Reunion

Dear SEBSers,
As SEBS-NA's DC reunion comes closer and closer every day, we are equally excited about the opportunity to meet and discuss with you on ways we can improve this organizations performances. Reunion will also help us terms of networking and renewal of friendships. SEBS-NA is very committed in understanding the members needs and resolving issues that will help us become better and stable organization every year. We firmly believe that error of past needs to be corrected and present opportunity needs to be seized.
Excomm members alone cannot make a reunion a grand success. Even if they were to do it, it would not have provided a learning opportunity for others. Therefore without your involvement and input we will be headed nowhere. In previous years we used to discuss outstanding issues and try to reach a solution within 2 hrs of meeting. In the day and age of internet, we need not wait for a year to solve these issues and hastily make decision on 15 issues within 2hrs. We believe that learning is a continuous process and we should take enough time to analyze our past performance, present working styles and future course of actions. This process can be done anytime and any place by anyone of the SEBS member. Last year when 15 issues were discussed in little over 2 hrs we felt that we did not give enough thought to each issues. Many of us simply show in the day of the meeting put in our 2 cents and disappear for rest of the year. We firmly believe that we should encourage more participatory process with critical thinking amongst SEBSers. We should also give equal opportunity to express those who cannot make it to the reunion. Therefore we have decided to change the format of Issue discussion this year to allow maximum participation with minimal interference to the reunion.
We propose to establish focus group for each issue.
Example of one of the issue can be: Top 5 things SEBS-NA should focus next year?
We would like to assign this topic to one of the SEBSer who will volunteer to lead this topic. He/She may request one or two other SEBSers to assist. They will basically be responsible for posting the issue in the web or sending e-mails to SEBSers and seek their opinion/suggestions from the members. SEBSers in turn should directly contact these Lead coordinators who will in turn summarize the voices of the SEBSers and will present their paper during the reunion with proposed recommendation for the next years excomm. Of course the present exomm will help them if they need assistance any moment. We believe this process will not only give the fellow SEBSer opportunity for team play but will be a valuable real world experience. Besides, this process involves more democratic approach with maximum participation.
Therefore we would like to request you to volunteer and be the Lead Issue Coordinator. If you are interested please contact sebsna@sebsonline.org
